Held without Holding
Steam-set, French silk dye on 100% Habotai silk
22" x 28β silk mounted on 24β x 30β x 2β gessoed canvas framed in a solid wooden frame finished in a rich walnut stain with elm burl.
Held Without Holding is a meditation on trust, tenderness, and the quiet balance between connection and freedom. In this silk painting, two open hands reach outward as a Carolina chickadee hovers in flight, poised in the fleeting moment before landing. The space between offering and arrival becomes a reflection on love that welcomes without grasping.
Flowing lines of wine, soft green, deep blue, and gold move through the background, creating an abstract current of emotion and energy that echoes the softness of the moment.
Often seen as symbols of joy, courage, trust, and resilience, chickadees remind us to move through life with openness and lightness of spirit. In Held Without Holding, the chickadee becomes a gentle messenger of faith, connection, and the beauty of allowing space for what we love.
Created with luminous dyes on silk, the fluid nature of the medium allows color to move organically across the surface. The silk is carefully adhered to canvas to preserve and protect the artwork, professionally framed, and ready to hang.
A visual mantra for trust and presence, this piece invites us to hold with care, without holding too tightly.
