Discover the profound dialogue between fleeting moments and lasting impressions. Through expressive strokes on silk, Laura Fox-Wallis captures the ephemeral elegance of birds in flight, the delicate flutter of moths, and the transient bloom of flowers. Each painting reveals a quiet resilience, honoring the beauty and symbolism embedded within these brief yet impactful encounters.

This collection invites you to witness the intricate interplay between impermanence and endurance. Through layered color and form, Fox-Wallis explores how the natural world—though ever-changing—leaves a lasting mark on our hearts and memories. In the delicate dance of avian grace and floral marvels, we are reminded that even the most fleeting gestures can carry timeless meaning.

This exhibition is a milestone moment, and I’d love to share it with you. Keep scrolling to make it a special getaway!

Ready to break the rules and discover a more expressive way to paint on silk? In this immersive workshop, Laura Fox-Wallis will teach you how to paint outside the lines—literally—by freeing your work from traditional resist techniques. Using her own interpretation of a sizing method, you'll explore how to build rich color, form, and texture to create realistic, dimensional artwork on silk.

This workshop is designed for all levels and includes all materials—just show up ready to experiment, learn, and create!

Together, we’ll work through a specially designed project from start to finish. Laura will guide you step-by-step through the process, from preparing your silk and mixing dyes to applying inventive techniques that bring your subject to life. You’ll leave with a completed artwork and the skills to continue creating on your own.

This is a rare chance to learn an advanced silk painting technique in an approachable, supportive environment. Whether you're new to silk or looking to expand your skills, you’ll leave with confidence and a beautiful, gallery-ready piece.

What you will Learn:

  • How to stretch silk onto a PVC frame for painting

  • Transferring your design to silk using water-soluble graphite

  • Mixing silk dyes to create a full range of values (highlights, mid-tones, and shadows)

  • Evenly applying Magic Sizing to prepare the silk surface

  • Understanding the properties and creative uses of:

    • Magic Sizing

    • The Mix

    • Far-Far Away

    • Alcohol and Vodka

  • Testing and layering color to build form and volume

  • Creating expressive texture using sponges, dye pens, and mixed media

  • Creative problem-solving when things don’t go as planned

  • How to paint a realistic water droplet (Laura’s signature detail!)

  • Tips for adding a dynamic background

  • How to finish your work: steaming, rinsing, drying, and mounting on canvas

Students are welcome to bring disposable gloves, a blow dryer, and an apron. All other supplies will be provided.

*No experience required*
